If you’re dealing with chronic pain, we want you to know that you’re not alone. Our patient success series is intended to share incredible and inspiring stories of our patients overcoming pain. Keep reading to learn about JaneEllen Varner’s journey with pain management with Alliance Spine and Pain Centers.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO ALLIANCE SPINE AND PAIN CENTERS?

I’ve always been a very active, energetic, and outgoing person. I enjoyed riding horses and running. Unfortunately, this enthusiasm has brought on a lot of pain over the years, which included developing scoliosis, being thrown off horses, and damage to my pituitary gland from a head injury. Needless to say, I hurt all over all the time.

When I went to a different clinic, I was given a combination of drugs to relieve everyday pain. However, my primary care physician suggested seeking pain relief from an interventional pain management clinic to stay off narcotics, which brought me to Alliance Spine and Pain Centers!

I am very thankful I had found Alliance because I ruptured a disc throwing fertilizer in the garden shortly after I started my care there. Dr. Pallavi Gupta, MD treated me with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) six months ago, and I haven’t had any more pain.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT OUR PRACTICE?

I met Dr. Gupta for the first time when I was there for my procedure and immediately loved her. She’s really, really good. I was so nervous, but Dr. Gupta was smiling down at me and that reassured me I was in good hands.

As a former high school teacher in the area, many of the Alliance staff at the center were my students, which is so precious to me. Everyone is so sweet and gets along. They treat all patients with kindness and create a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

WHAT LESSON DO YOU WANT THOSE READING YOUR STORY TO LEARN?

You can’t lay down and quit. Take the time to educate yourself if you feel unknowledgeable about your pain care treatment and follow your healthcare provider’s advice to lose weight if needed. You have to keep living.

HOW ARE YOU DOING NOW?

I now have very little pain! When weather changes and fronts come through, I might have some trouble with my knees. However, if it wasn’t for the RFAs, I wouldn’t be up and going!

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF

I’m a retired high school teacher living in Powder Springs. I married my high school sweetheart and we have three children and four grandchildren. Until this year, I have homeschooled one of my handicapped grandchildren.

My hobbies include knitting, playing piano, and embroidering. They used to include breaking and training horses too. I have a farm with a pony, donkeys, goats, and chickens. In the last several years, I went through training to be a dialysis tech to take care of my husband. Now I manage my husband’s dialysis treatment many hours a week.
